Joseph Smiga serves as a Senior Associate Healthcare Counsel within the Office of the General Counsel at UConn Health. In that role, he provides counsel to UConn Heath administration, faculty, clinicians, and researchers on the broad range of legal issues that confront an academic medical center. Prior to joining UConn Health, Joe was a Staff Attorney with the Connecticut Department of Social Services where he advised on privacy issues, employment law, FOIA, contracts, and quality assurance. Joe was also a former active-duty Air Force Judge Advocate, and current Reserve Air Force Judge Advocate, where he holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Joe earned his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law, with honors, and received his B.A. from Providence College, magna cum laude.
